There comes a time in all our lives when we either choose to say, ‘F*ck it! or Suck it!’ regarding our careers, relationships, physical or mental health and or our finances.
From personal experience, whilst pondering the pros and cons of ‘F*ck it’, I consciously know I’m also sitting on the fence, whilst experiencing proverbial splinters up my bum, and at the same time subconsciously choosing to say to myself that I’m ok with my choice to continuing ‘Sucking it’.
However, it’s not good. It’s not healthy and it helps no one, especially our future selves.
Then in an instant I choose to say, ‘F*ck it’ and everything changes all at once.
I’m not saying it’s easy on the other side. Hard is unavoidable, be it now or later.
What I am saying is that it’s more empowering to be in control of your own choices, rather than giving or having your choices taken away from you.
Like throwing a stone into a still pool of water, our changes ripple through the lives of others too.
Naturally the others will do their best to calm their own waters by deploying their own processes, strategies and actions that were previously successful in keeping the status quo.
And if it’s a big change, hang on for your dear life because you’ll probably also experience some real white knuckling, teeth clenching, scary sh*t moments.
Then again, their overreactions could also reaffirm your decision to change, gifting you the clarity and reasons of why you felt your need to change in the first place, along with the motivation you need to keep moving forward.
With change comes life. Just as spring follows winter, the winter snow melts, green shoots appear, spring flowers bloom and sparrows learn to fly.
Choosing to change is your own spring, a time of new growth, new beginnings and new possibilities, awakening you from your winter freeze of inaction.
I’m sure, for those little sparrows, learning to fly for the first time is scary. They could fall from their nest and die. They could also choose to stay in the comfort of their own little nests, whilst slowly dying of starvation and being prey to a hungry squirrel or a circling hawk.
But they don’t, stay in their nests forever; they have wings, and it’s in their very nature to fly.
So today being the 1st of March and the first day of spring here in Japan, for those of you who are stuck in a rut, unhappy with your current environment, situation, health, relationships or whatever, all I ask you to do is ask yourself ‘if not now, then when?’
Then spring into action and make your plans happen.
